Surprising Dan with A NEW PC! - Thanks, AMD! is a special video on StephenPlays in which Stephen and Jeff surprise Dan with a new PC, with the help of several sponsors (AMD, Gigabyte, G.Skill, Samsung, Fractal Design, Western Digital, and Antec).

SummaryEdit

Dan is the main editor for StephenPlays, and now edits pretty much everything on the channel except for Fallout 4. However, his old PC, an entry-level 2010 Macbook Pro, takes hours to export videos and has trouble editing 4K footage.

Because Dan has done really good work for him, Stephen wanted to thank Dan by gifting him with a brand new PC to make his life a lot easier. Stephen decided to contact Jeff, who is an editor-in-chief for TechReport.com which reviews PC hardware, to ask him if he had a few spare parts that he could give Stephen to help surprise Dan with a new PC. But Jeff did much more: he asked AMD and other tech companies to sponsor Dan's new PC and they agreed!

Some day after that, Jeff brings the sponsored parts over to Stephen's house, where he and Stephen surprise an unsuspecting Dan with the computer parts for his new PC, which are:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X
  • GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX Vega 56 Nitro+ Limited Edition
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte X399 Designare EX
  • RAM: G.Skill TridentZ RGB (quad channel kit)
  • SSD: Samsung 960 Evo 1TB
  • HDD: 2x Western Digital Red 6TB
  • Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 850w
  • Water Cooler: Fractal Design Celsius S36
  • Case: Fractal Design R6

After building the computer, Stephen, Dan, and Jeff discuss how the new PC will help both Dan's editing and Stephen's channel. They share that it rendered an episode of GTA Online in a quarter of the time that his old PC took, and that with his new PC, Dan can now edit 4K videos. It also doubled the FPS of GTA Online and significantly improved the graphics quality in-game. Now, they won't need to worry if Dan's PC can run a game that they want to play on Stephen & Friends, because it will definitely be able to run almost any game.
