Summary[]
For the past few months, Stephen and Mal have been preparing to buy a house. Today, they head down to the bank and actually talk with someone about a prospective mortgage. On the upside, their situation is much better this year than last year, but due to the large amounts of interest accrued on their student loans, they won't be able to get a very large amount for their mortgage. Their best bet is to consolidate their debt and to work hard to pay it off as soon as possible.
The next day, Stephen gets a call from the bank and learns that, due to his employment situation, he and Mal would only be able to get half of the amount they were offered the day before. Because of this, they will not be able to move forward with buying a house yet, but they'll keep looking for other alternatives like trying to get a mortgage at a smaller bank.
On a happier note, it's Karley's birthday! May it be an astronomically good one.
