Extra Life 2014 or the SNES GAME FOR KIDS event was a livestream of various SNES games that was held on October 25th, 2013. Announced on Day 1772 of StephenVlog, the livestream was to raise money for children, with 100% of all proceeds going to their local children's hospital, the McLeod Children's Hospital in Florence, South Carolina. A series of test streams were held over the period of two days prior to the actual event, as this is Stephen & Mallory's third Extra Life livestream, following Extra Life 2012 and Extra Life 2013 respectively.
The livestream for this year was a bit different compared to the previous Extra Life events they have participated in. For one, players and staff from the StephenCraft joined in the chat during the event, with a majority of the staff and admins serving as moderators of the chat. Second, the goal has tripled again from last year's $1,500 goal, now set at $4,500, which was nine times the $500 goal two years back. The goal was met by evening, with $5,356 raised when the event ended at around 3:15 AM EST the next day, totaling up to nearly 15 hours of gameplay.
Finally, the number of games has changed, as it was not just Earthbound like the last two years. Though Earthbound was still played this year, viewers can donate at least $10 to vote on a SNES game that will be played for approximately 45 minutes throughout the stream, as a way to engage the audience and play some great SNES games. After the 45 minutes are up, the next game with the highest total will be played, though it will be reset back to $0 to give other games a fair shot at being played for 45 minutes.
SNES Games PlayedEdit
The following SNES games were showcased during the livestream:
- Mega Man X (Showcased three times during the event as a majority of the chat wanted more Mega Man X after the first and second playthroughs.)
- Wild Guns
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
- Tales of Phantasia
- Super Mario Kart
- Rock N' Roll Racing
- Chrono Trigger
- Zombies Ate My Neighbors
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- Yoshi's Island
- Final Fantasy III (VI)^
- Lion King
^For unknown reasons, there was an issue with Twitch after the stream in which the video of Stephen & Mal playing the final game of the stream, Final Fantasy III (IV) had disappeared and never resurfaced on Twitch. A portion of Yoshi's Island also vanished as well but most of the game was salvaged anyway. In addition, some random parts of the stream were not recorded—namely Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, Tales of Phantasia, Chrono Trigger, Megaman X (Second showcase), and Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
