Extra Life 2014 or the SNES GAME FOR KIDS event was a livestream on Twitch of various SNES games that Stephen and Mal held on October 25th, 2013, to raise money for their local children's hospital, the McLeod Children's Hospital in Florence, South Carolina.
This was Stephen & Mallory's third Extra Life livestream, following Extra Life 2012 and Extra Life 2013. Stephen first announced the livestream on Day 1772 (10/1/14) of StephenVlog, and a series of test streams were held over the period of two days prior to the actual event to test their games.
This year's Extra Life was a bit different from their previous Extra Life events. For one, players and staff from the StephenCraft server joined in the chat during the event, with a majority of the staff and admins serving as moderators of the chat. Second, the goal has tripled again from last year's $1,500 goal, now set at $4,500. The goal was met by evening, with $5,356 raised when the event ended at around 3:15 AM EST the next day, totaling up to nearly 15 hours of gameplay.
Finally, instead of only playing Earthbound, Stephen and Mal let viewers donate at least $10 towards any SNES game that they wanted to see be played. The game with the most donations would then be played for the next 45 minutes, after which the next game would be chosen. Also, after a game gets chosen to be played, its donation total was reset to $0 to give other games a fair shot to be played.
SNES Games Played Edit
- Mega Man X (Showcased three times during the event, as a majority of the chat wanted more Mega Man X after the first and second playthroughs.)
- Wild Guns
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
- Tales of Phantasia
- Super Mario Kart
- Rock N' Roll Racing
- Chrono Trigger
- Zombies Ate My Neighbors
- Super Mario World
- Super Metroid
- Yoshi's Island
- Final Fantasy III (VI)^
- Lion King
^For unknown reasons, there was an issue with Twitch after the stream in which the video of Stephen & Mal playing the final game of the stream, Final Fantasy III (VI) had disappeared and never resurfaced on Twitch. Some of Yoshi's Island also vanished as well, but most of the game was salvaged. In addition, some random parts of the stream were not recorded—namely Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, Tales of Phantasia, Chrono Trigger, Mega Man X (second showcase), and Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
